If you would like to direct a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is pointed to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the website that you've set up, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

In case you have a web hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it'll take you a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia CP offered with each and every plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have created a site via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to set up a CNAME record without difficulty. In case you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than three mouse clicks to create this type of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video within the Control Panel about how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
