Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Given that the data exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a web hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the alternatives are limited as you won't have root access to the machine, so you could simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. They are all actions which are carried out within the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are tons of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

If the web hosting package deal which you’ve selected throughout the signup process includes SSH access by default, you will be able to activate this function with a mouse click in your Hepsia Control Panel. If you have selected a different package, the SSH access function could be included using the Upgrades menu and it'll become available immediately. All the information that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to change it anytime. All the commands that are permitted are listed in the Help articles which we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax which you need to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH no matter which plan you select when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is included as standard, and with others, it may be included as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll find the necessary login details inside the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You may select the password that you'll use and if you'd like, you can change it constantly with several clicks for even higher security. You'll be able to see all the commands that you may use in advance, because we have listed them all along with examples of how they are used to perform a specific task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is activated, you shall be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to control your content regardless of which VPS servers you select when you sign up, because all our packages come with this function by default. You'll not need to add or activate anything by hand - the minute your website hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login details, you may connect and begin working on your websites or any software you want to set up and run on the web server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account will be isolated from the other accounts inside the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You'll be able to install any app you need and that shall work on a Linux-based server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
